How getmyfirstjob.co.uk works

  1. You register your details here telling us about the types of jobs you’re interested in, how you got on in school and most importantly a little bit about you. Don’t worry it takes less than 10 minutes!
  2. From the moment you register a range of organisations will begin working on your behalf to find you that career starting job. These are the “training providers” who work with employers to find young people who don’t just want a job, but want a job with training. In addition, many large employers use getmyfirstjob.co.uk themselves directly to find the right applicants to join their business.
  3. As vacancies arise in your area employers and training providers will search for people registered on the system who could be suitable for the job. They match people with jobs using:
    1. Geography – How far would it be for you to travel to your new job, on foot or by using your own or public transport?
    2. Your interests – as part of your application you’ll tell us the types of job’s you’d be interested in and importantly those you would not.
    3. Your exam results – either actual or predicted, but don’t worry if you didn’t do as well as you may have liked. Many of our employers are looking for people who show the right attitude to work in their business and not just those with top grades.
  4. If you’re selected as a possible candidate for a role you’ll be contacted by the person managing that vacancy and shortly be given a brief telephone interview either there and then or at a time convenient for you. We know how busy you can be, so look out for text messages from getmyfirstjob.co.uk about possible jobs in your area. You’ll also be told a little more about the role and the company and if you’re successful in the interview and happy with role you’ll move onto the next stage.
  5. Having completed your telephone interview a meeting with your prospective new employer for a job interview will be arranged for you. Make sure you’re fully prepared for this important meeting by reading our “prepare for interview” pages!
  6. We know you’ll do well, but whether you’re successful or not the person managing the job role will give you a call and let you know how you got on. Assuming you have been successful they will arrange with you a start date for your new job along with giving you details about the training and qualifications you’ll be undertaking as part of your new job.
  7. Stay in touch with us – We hope that you will have taken the opportunity to join the getmyfirstjob.co.uk Facebook community. We hope you’ll be an active member and tell us how you’re find you’re new job, what you like and perhaps don’t about your training and meet other people just starting out in their careers.
