Introduction Into Ministry of Defence

The Ministry of Defence is one of the UK’s largest employers with just over 57,000 civilian employees supporting our Armed Forces. All these roles are vital to our defence mission and give access to some of the most interesting work in government.

Digital Technology within Ministry of Defence (MOD) is ever developing and encompasses a wide range of Information Technology (IT) systems, services and software solutions. It is what keeps our armed forces connected wherever their location and it plays a large part in enabling the Ministry of Defence to carry out its role to protect the security, independence and interests of our country at home and abroad.

An apprenticeship in Defence will give you the opportunity to work in a constantly changing environment, and whilst gaining skills and knowledge to gain a real qualification.

Why would a young person want to apply for this apprenticeship?

The MOD Digital Technology Apprenticeship is a combination of both classroom based and workplace training offering individuals the chance to get involved with some exciting and unique projects, allowing them to gain professional knowledge and real practical experience.

You could be working on office ICT infrastructure including our MODNET platform or cutting-edge cyber and information security capabilities to battle-winning technologies such as Tactical Ground to Air and Tactical Satellite radios.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship you will be considered for potential appointment into the Ministry of Defence. Appointment will be subject to availability of roles and an assessment of your suitability.

The MOD also offers Degree Apprenticeships so if successful you could carry on your learning and gain a degree.
