Description of Opportunity

Training includes the study of modern technology, state-of-the-art engineering, and production techniques so you need to understand the assembly and function of technical equipment. You will be trained in traditional skills to include Milling, Turning, Grinding, and Drilling.

You will also receive training in CNC (computerised numerical control) and EDM (electrical discharge machining) machines. You should also have good communication skills, the ability to think logically and to work independently or as part of a team.

Working with 2D and 3D computer-aided design and manufacturing software (CAD/CAM)

Marking out tool designs on 'stock' following engineering plans

Cutting and shaping parts with lathes/mills

Entering settings into computer-controlled machines

Checking dimensions with measuring instruments

Carrying out basic machine maintenance

9-4 (A-C) In English and maths GSCE or equivalent
You will work towards a level 3 engineering technician standard starting with the level 2 engineering operative standard for one year.

On successful completion of the Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship there may be an opportunity to progress to the Higher Level 4 Apprenticeship for a further 2 years and or HNC.
