Hello, I Am Aimee

If you’re considering an apprenticeship, go for it and don’t listen to any negativity, you won’t regret it.

Tell us more about your experience

As a trainee manager, my daily responsibilities include running sections on shift, opening the pub in the mornings, and closing at night. One of my most exciting moments while in my apprenticeship has been when I was able to work at the St Austell Brewery Awards, it was a great experience! However, my proudest moment has to be when I was awarded a Distinction on my Level 2 apprenticeship results – my hard work really paid off.

I originally decided to pursue an apprenticeship after speaking to Mark Lewin, an adviser at Truro College who was able to point me in the right direction. When I left school, I was the only one out of my friends who didn’t go to college. They were making new friendship groups and I was left feeling alone. But my apprenticeship experience has really made me feel more confident and helped to overcome this.

Before my apprenticeship, I hated speaking to new people and strangers, but now I help out by holding talks for the college about my apprenticeship journey! If you’re considering an apprenticeship, go for it and don’t listen to any negativity, you won’t regret it. I now have really great skills, like customer service, bartending and handling money which will be helpful in the future. I hope after my apprenticeship to be in a managerial role as my manager development training is coming up.

My employers have been amazing and have given me positive support and the best opportunities I could ever ask for. I’ve also been really supported by my training providers, especially when I had to complete my endpoint assessment in lockdown – it was a tough experience. However, I was able to overcome my anxiety about exams and succeed.
