During my apprenticeship, Severn Trent has proved themselves as a very supportive employer, with colleagues from your own and other teams being willing to share experiences to help you develop with your work. From my own experience, I know there are lots of opportunities to get involved in new things, helping you to learn new skills and build a network with colleagues around the business.

What is Severn Trent's work environment like?

Severn Trent is a people and value led environment, which means they do their best work to play their part in making a big difference to the environment and communities served. Not just because they should but because they care! The people make Severn Trent a truly exciting and inclusive place to work. It is not a stuffy corporate environment but a place where you can be yourself and let your skills shine. It is a relaxed environment and employees have sense of family with each other. They run different social events throughout the year to support this, this can either be companywide or in local teams and really helps everyone come together and connect outside of the work environment. For example, they have annual Christmas parties with different sporting events and competitions. Because of this, they all share in the company’s success through an annual bonus scheme and employees are also able to invest in the company share save scheme. Severn Trent truly believe that they all succeed together! As Severn Trent has diverse teams and roles, the working patterns, hours, locations of work, and the flexibility will differ depending on the role you apply for.

Where do Severn Trent employees work?

Severn Trent's head office in Coventry is large, modern, and open plan with multiple floors for different business areas like finance, human resources, technology, customer, strategy and regulation, and many more. There are lots of collaborative spaces and meeting rooms across the building which all employees can use. And they have two other large office hubs in Derby and Shropshire where other teams are based, such as engineering, operational, and customer support.

Severn Trent's frontline operational staff either work at depots where clean water and wastewater is treated, or out in the communities. Severn Trent's teams that are out in the community finding and fixing leaks are preventing water waste and maintaining infrastructure.

At the wastewater sites there are biological treatments turning sewage into safe water that protects the environment and means it can go back into rivers. The water treatment works use filtration processes on water taken from the ground or rivers so that people can turn on their taps for clean, safe water.

STW has provided me with a supportive environment where I truly feel I have room to develop both personally & professionally. I see myself having a bright and long future here! I couldn’t be happier!
They have different teams: operational frontline teams who maintain and fix water and sewerage systems, customer advisors who communicate with customers, and STEM based roles such as engineers who design and deliver different projects like big construction projects, new machinery, components, and many more. They also have their business-focused teams who support and ensure that the business is running well, for example the human resources team, who support all employees in the business.
