MI5 Job Opportunities

The world is becoming increasingly dependent on modern technologies. However, as these advance, so too do the risks that people, countries and businesses face. The Intelligence Agencies (MI5 & GCHQ) operate seamlessly as partners to protect the UK from all kinds of these threats – everything from terror plots, cyber-attacks and criminal activities. They do this by pushing the boundaries of technology - using and creating the latest software.

MI5 are now looking for school leavers passionate about technology to join their Technical Apprenticeship in London. So if you love to explore, create, take technology apart and put it back together again, this is an incredibly rewarding and unique apprenticeship. Plus, by helping in their mission to keep the country safe, it’s also meaningful work that you won’t find anywhere else.

“You can’t tell your friends what you do which is a shame as some of the stuff is pretty cool.”

Job Opportunities with MI5

The Technical Apprenticeship offers people leaving secondary school or college the chance to start an exciting, rewarding and unique career. Throughout, you’ll enjoy hands-on work that will help build and maintain some of the world’s most advance software technology – all while working towards a BSc Honours degree. It combines university accredited classroom and lab education, in state-of-the-art facilities. You’ll also get technology training, mentoring and job shadowing, research and development, and work-based placements and projects. In fact, you’ll take on real business challenges in software engineering, information assurance or cyber operations.

Over the three years, you’ll become a vital part of a team that ensures the UK Government can confidently operate in cyber-space and stay ahead of the evolving digital world. You’ll be exposed to some of the most cutting-edge technologies, along with practical insights into the innovative ways they help keep the country safe. You’ll need to have (or be expecting to have) three A-Levels. Two of these will be grade B or above, and one at grade C or above. Two will need to be in either Science, Technology, Engineering or maths (STEM) subjects, or an equivalent STEM subject qualification. In return, you won’t only make the most of this unique apprenticeship – you’ll also grow your skills. And, at the end of the programme, you could even be considered for full-time employment.

“While my friends are studying for a degree, I’m still learning and getting a head start on my career.”
