Detailed Job Description

The yard specialises in retraining racehorses for new careers after a life in racing.

General yard duties including;

  • Mucking out
  • Cleaning out
  • Feeding and haying
  • Grooming
  • Rug changing
  • Bringing in/turning out
  • Riding (dependent on experience)
  • Exercising horses (lunging etc.)
  • Clipping/bathing/trimming/plaiting

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

Must be able to work towards Level 1 or higher in Functional Skills maths and English

Skills required

Experience with horses preferable

Personal Qualities

Successful candidate must be;

  • Enthusiastic and hardworking
  • Calm and confident around horses
  • Willing to work outside in all weather

Future prospects

Possibility of Level 3 Horse Care apprenticeship on completion of Level 2

Training provided

Full training through the Equine Apprenticeship supported by Haddon Training

No accommodation but able to take own horse
