WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN APPRENTICE GROOM, WHO HAS SOME PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE ALREADY, TO TRAIN AS A COMPETITION GROOM. YOU SHOULD BE AT LEAST 17 YEARS OLD AND HAPPY TO HANDLE FIT COMPETITION HORSES.

IF YOU ARE A COMPETENT RIDER WHO LIKES TO CARE FOR HORSES, WORK WITH OTHER CONSCIENTIOUS CHEERFUL GROOMS IN A BUSY COMPETITION LIVERY YARD, WITH STRUCTURE AND THE HIGHEST STANDARDS YOU WOULD LIKE IT ON OUR YARD.

THE YARD IS RUN BY A BS ACCREDITED COACH, IF YOU COMPETE AT NOVICE OR AMATEUR LEVEL, THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY TO BRING YOUR HORSE ON STAFF LIVERY AND TRAVEL TO SOME SHOWS. WE CAN GIVE YOU GOOD WORKING CONDITIONS AND TRAINING TO COMPLETE YOUR APPRENTICESHIP, WHILST GAINING THE ALL IMPORTANT WORK EXPERIENCE.

LIVE IN POSITION—MODERN ACCOMMODATION.

General duties to include;

  • Mucking Out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning
  • Filling hay nets
  • Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug Changing
  • Paddock Maintenance
  • Schooling
  • Riding
  • First Aid
  • Exercising Horses from the Ground
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist

Custom duties include;

  • Assisting with breaking and backing
  • Handling foals
  • Handling youngsters
  • Handling competition horses
  • Handling stallions
  • Competing
  • Riding out on the gallops
  • Hunting
  • Assisting with lessons

Some previous experience with horses necessary.
Must be able to work towards Level 1 or higher in Functional Skills maths and English
Full training through the Equine Apprenticeship supported by Haddon Training.
Keen, hardworking, willing to work outside in all weathers, good sense of humour, confident around horses.
Opportunity to progress to a Level 3 Apprentice, or a permanent position.
Accommodation may be available. It may be possible to bring your own horse.
