Detailed Job Description

You will be expected to assist with the early stages of our breeding programme and Stud.

You will have weekly training towards their diploma and BHS exams.

The work would be a mix of weekdays and weekends, working three weekends in every four.

You will be expected to start work at 8:00am and finishing at 5:00pm, when showing hours will vary and you will be expected work early starts and late finishes.

As part of the job you will be required to attend shows where you will groom.

You will be involved with preparing horses for Shows, a very high level of turn out is expected, horses to be turned out to HOYS standard.

General yard duties such as:

  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Mucking out
  • Feeding
  • Poo picking
  • Riding in training (more riding will be available when stage 1 ability is achieved) Grooming
  • Show prep
  • Handling young stock, stallions and mares in foal.

This is an apprenticeship position for those aged 16-23.

Haddon Training will be in contact within 2-3 days if you are eligible.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

Must be able to work towards Level 1 or higher in Functional Skills maths and English

Skills required

Some previous experience with horses is essential. If you do not have the relevant experience, we will not be able to put you forward for this position.

Personal Qualities

Hard working, keen, enthusiastic, willing to work outside in all types of weather, passionate about the Equine Industry, calm and confident handling horses.

Future prospects

Full time position on completion of diploma.

Training provided

Full training through the Equine Apprenticeship supported by Haddon Training.

No accommodation available, and no space for your own horse but there are livery yards nearby.
