St Levan Primary School is looking for a teaching assistant apprentice to join our friendly, family school. You will be encouraged to use your strengths to inspire the children and we will work closely with you to develop you in all areas. You will be fully supported throughout your apprenticeship by a qualified member of staff who will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to know to successfully complete your tasks.

Description

The successful candidate will have a varied role which will involve supporting Reception and Key Stage 1 children with reading, writing and maths. In addition, you will be supporting the classroom teacher with preparing resources for topic areas, supporting small groups of children and supporting individual children to engage.

You will be a positive role model at playtimes and lunchtimes, preparing snacks, playing games and supporting all of our children in both classes. You will also support clubs where required and play to your strengths and interests.

As we are a small school of less than 30 children, you will need to be flexible, adaptable and keen to work within both classes.

  • You will have basic Maths and English skills.

The apprenticeship in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools includes:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • Functional skill in English (Level 2), Maths (Level 1) and ICT (Level 1)

This is a nationally recognised qualification that provides a broad and thorough training programme for all those supporting teaching and learning in schools, and covers topics such as:

  • Schools as Organisations - Reviewing policies and legislation and the impact on the sector
  • Child and young person development – knowledge of child development from birth to 19, and the factors, including transition which may affect development
  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people – reviewing legislation, guidelines and how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child or young person is being harmed or abused, including E-Safety
  • Support learning activities – the knowledge and skills required to support learning activities. Will include an understanding of the planning, deliver, assessment and review cycle.

Sessions are reviewed regularly and updated to meet the requirements of employers and learners in line with sector Changes and the focus of legislation and good practice requirements.

To gain the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, learners will attend a 1 day induction, a number of taught sessions in college over the academic year plus a further 6 days for functional skills if required.

Further assessment is through a combination of workbooks and assignments, which will require a degree of self-study. This will include assessor visits at employer locations with the expectation of witness statements and product evidence to meet the level 2 standards.

We have supported apprentices to gain this qualification and all went on to gain full-time employment as TA in schools.
Hours between 8:00am till 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Additional hours worked over 40 hours per week will be paid National Minimum Wage depending on age. Own car is required due to location.
