Description

Full time groom/rider required at a family run National Hunt yard based in Oxfordshire. To work alongside owners as well as a team of three other staff in caring for 22 quality horses. Role includes all normal yard duties, plus riding - hacking out and flat work, so competent and quiet rider preferred. Previous experience working with horses required. Previous racing specific experience not essential – as long as applicants are willing to learn. Must be competent handling fit horses on the ground. Fantastic opportunity to join a small team and build a career in a professional and respected industry.

General duties will include;

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning
  • Tacking up
  • Clipping/plaiting/trimming
  • Riding
  • Schooling
  • Rug changing
  • Bathing
  • Possibility of holding for vet/farrier/dentist

Experience with horses is essential. Please note that applicants with no experience will not be considered for this position.
Must be able to work towards Level 1 or higher in Functional Skills maths and English
Full training provided through the Equine Apprenticeship supported by Haddon Training

Successful candidate will be;

  • 16-24 years old
  • A competent and quiet rider
  • Experience working with horses
  • Competent handling fit horses on the ground
  • Ambitious to succeed in the racing industry
Possibility of Level 3 Racehorse Care Apprenticeship on completion of Level 2
Accommodation available and able to take own horse (and dog)
