Description

Main Duties:

  • To be responsible for any tasks delegated by the Deputy Nursery Manager/Nursery Manager to complete all academic aspects of the apprenticeship.
  • To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times. To report any concerns to the room leader or management team.
  • To ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times in relation to parent’s children and staff.
  • To support the nursery team to deliver an appropriate play based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to make individual progress.
  • To help ensure the nursery meets Ofsted requirements at all times.
  • To understand and work to nursery policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately, reporting all concerns and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies.
  • To plan activities, with support of the room leader, which ensure each child is working towards the early learning outcomes.
  • To work in partnership with senior management to report any concerns.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the nursery aims and objectives.
  • Attend induction training and sign-up procedure onto Apprenticeship programme.
  • Undertake training in a positive manner, attending review meetings when required.
  • Work proactively with your assessor to progress effectively through the scheme, completing coursework in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that children are kept safe and follow-safeguarding procedures at all times. Be a reliable member of the team, working cooperatively and with flexibility.
  • Understand that each child is an individual and gain a general understanding of childcare and child development.
  • Observe each child’s progress and report on achievements, looking for progression and continuity.
  • Learn how to develop positive relationships with parents/carers, other staff and outside agencies.
  • Assist with the supervision of children at play (indoor and outdoor) and at mealtimes. Learn how to assist with planning a programme of activities, suitable for the age range of the children, following the guidelines for the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • Assist with the creation and continuous development of a stimulating, attractive and enabling environment.
  • Attend parent meetings, be involved in fundraising events and assist with the promotion of the nursery as required. Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required. Be responsible for participating in all self-development activities, including appraisals, supervisions etc.
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Be fully aware of all emergency and security procedures e.g. fire precautions.
  • Assist with the care, maintenance and security of all equipment and toys within the nursery.
  • Operate the highest standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the bedding and nappy changing area and food surface areas.

Essential:

. Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People – Reviewing legislation and guidelines. How to respond to evidence or concerns that a Child or Young Person has been abused including e safety.

. Child and Young Person Development – Understand the main stages of child development 0 - 19 years.

. Introduction to Equality and Inclusion - Understand how to work in an inclusive ways.

. Health and Safety – Understand policies and procedures and recognising risks and hazards.

. Partnership Working – Understand the importance of partnership with carers.

. Communication – barriers and strategies to improve communication.

. Support Relationships with Children and Young People – Understand how to maintain and support relationships.

Sessions are reviewed regularly and updated to meet the requirements of employers and learners in line with sector changes and the focus of legislation and good practice requirements.

Essential:

  • Commitment Ability to accept responsibility and take initiative.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively to maintaining high standards of care.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, there could possibly be the offer of a full time role.
Working Monday to Friday. From 9AM to 5PM.
