Description
Job Purpose:
To support and assist with the preparation of technical solutions to engineering problems as a member of a design team and as directed.
Key Responsibilities, which you will learn as part of the apprenticeship in addition to the formal training programme you will receive hands on experience including mentoring and coaching from experienced members of the team.
There will be a rotational work programme to gain experience of numerous different aspects of the particular Highways business you are placed with.This will include:
- Inspectorate teams
- Maintenance team
- Finance/commercial department
- Performance & operational team
- Network co-ordination
On this Highways apprenticeship programme you will learn a range of skills across the Highways Business. Following the apprenticeship programme we would expect you to have developed skills in:
- Working independently using your own initiative
- Principles of highway maintenance
- Understand safe working practices and Health and Safety regulations within the work environment
- Commercial understanding

This apprenticeship programme is very much the start of an exciting career in the construction industry with wide ranging prospects which may span a number of roles including, Civil Engineer, Quantity Surveyor , Highways Inspector Ganger/Supervisor/Manager in Highways Maintenance or Hub operator
This role may involve some travelling, specifically in order to attend the training facility to undertake your academic training, as such a driving licence would be beneficial. This apprenticeship may involve working weekends and may involve working in the evenings. A career in construction may involve being based on projects in various locations.
