A busy professional event rider is offering an opportunity for a Traineeship/Level 2 Horse Care/Level 3 Horse Care Apprentice to join him on his young, fun and upbeat yard.

Previous experience is not essential, however a good work ethic, sense of humour and common sense is more important! They are offering lots of opportunities to those who are willing to put the time and effort in to succeed, including HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) license and BHS stages if required.

Successful apprentice will help ride horses (dependent on ability) and help with the running of the yard when the owner is away at competitions.

They also hunt throughout the winter with the opportunity for the apprentice to join in (dependent on ability).

All general yard and groom duties will include;

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning and tacking up
  • Feeding and filling hay nets
  • Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug changing
  • Paddock maintenance
  • Schooling, riding and exercising horses from the ground (lunging, horse walker, long reining, pessoa training etc.)
  • First aid
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist
  • Opportunity to groom at shows and events in the UK and abroad

Some equine knowledge would be beneficial but not essential
Must be able to work towards Level 1 or higher in Functional Skills maths and English
Full training through the Equine Apprenticeship supported by Haddon training.
It is more important that the successful candidate is hard working, has a good sense of humour and a lot of common sense. This is a fun, busy yard so must be able to work well with the rest of the team.
Full time employment and training towards BHS exams and HGV test. £3.50 minimum and more for someone with experience and
