Level 2/Level 3 Horse Care Apprenticeship

An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly committed person to work/train on a busy yard of mainly hunters and liveries in one of the most prestigious yards in the country. Excellent training will be provided in all aspects. The successful candidate must be prepared to be challenged to work to the very highest standards. The position is either live in or live out (if live out must have own transport and a clean driving licence).However, this position is not just about hunting and liveries. At the end of the hunting season the focus shifts to preparations for, and then running, a major international 3 day event where you will have the opportunity to work behind the scenes when your human and equine heroes are competing!

Detailed Job Description

  • All general yard duties and ideally the successful candidate will have have:
  • At least one year’s experience working in the equine industry on a busy yard
  • Or experience caring for and either hunting or competing their own horse
  • May have been a member of The Pony Club
  • GCSE English and Maths grades A-E/9-2 and willing to work towards functional skills Maths and English Level 1 or 2 if not already at A-C.

However, attitude and potential are more important than experience.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

Must be able to work towards Level 1 or higher in Functional Skills maths and English

Skills required

Some experience with horses is preferred but not essential as attitude is more important.

  • Common sense, hard working and able to show initiative on hectic days
  • Flexible and reliable
  • Ambitious
  • Able to work as part of a team and follow instruction
  • Dedicated and looking for a long term career as a groom.

Future prospects

Opportunity to work behind the scenes at a major international 3 day event with your human and equine heroes.

Full training through the Equine Apprenticeship supported by Haddon Training.
