If you are someone who loves cooking, are committed to working hard and willing to learn all aspects of working in a well-run kitchen. Then this Apprentice Commis Chef position at The Castle Inn is for you. You will be assisting the chefs to learn how to prepare and cook food for all aspects of the menu. You duties will include: • Maintaining high standards of hygiene • Preparing the ingredients for a more senior chef • Measuring dish ingredients and portion sizes accurately • Dealing with deliveries and stock rotation. You will be working in a demanding environment completing practical tasks to meet the needs of the business. As an Apprentice you will be included on a Level 2 Commis Chef qualification. Your Qualification will be delivered by an Award Winning Training Provider who will support your learning and development throughout your Apprenticeship. This will involve a Vocational Learning Advisor coming to visit you on a regular basis to deliver the training and guide you through your Apprenticeship. Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12 months training, this will include the completion of functional skills in Maths and English. They will be put through to end point assessment. The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role.

You must be able to work in a busy environment and take instruction. You’ll need to have a lot of stamina, be able to learn on your feet and be passionate about food because cooking in a high pressure kitchen is hard work. You’ll also need to be versatile, because it is important that you gain experience in all sections of the kitchen - fish, pastry.
None required as full training will be given. Completing Maths and English Functional Skills is part of the Apprenticeship.
Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship Standards:Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the Apprentices’ chosen career route, each standards has set knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be successful within the job role. This will include the completion of functional skills in Maths and English. Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12 months training and the employer and Babcock regional trainer confirm they have met all the requirements of the standard they will be put through to end point assessment. The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role. Each Apprentice will be supported throughout the apprenticeship by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, face to face training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help them to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare them for the end of point assessment.
You must have a general interest in food, cooking and where food comes from. The right candidate will be wanting to start a career as a chef and happy to take on hard work. Must be able to work with raw food.
On going training & development, this is an excellent opportunity to undertake a Level 2 Commis Chef qualification with an Award Winning Learning Provider. This position could potentially lead to a permanent position. Your pay or incentives will be reviewed as your progress develops.
