Barnsdale Lodge are looking for an Apprentice Commis Chef to join their experienced team. You will be assisting the chefs and learning how to cook and prepare food for all aspects of the menu. Duties Include: Learning different procedures of food preparationPreparing ingredients for dishes upon the instructions of the chefMaking sure that food supplies are stored properly and used resourcefullyEnsuring that food items are properly rotated in refrigerators and any near expiry ones are dealt with accordinglySetting up food stations by following chef’s orders, make sure that recipes are followed properly during food preparation and cooking timeHandling portion control requirements and presentation standardsArranging food items aesthetically on serving platesMaking sure that the kitchen is clean and organised at all times, Ensure that best food practices and kitchen hygiene protocols are adhered toMaking sure that all leftover food is stored properlyAssisting in checking food deliveries for both quantity and quality standardsProviding input into stock rotation activities and make sure that food inventory is in checkMaintaining a ’clean as you go’ work ethic Each Apprentice will be supported throughout the apprenticeship by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, face to face training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help them to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare them for the end of point assessment. Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12 months training, this will include the completion of functional skills in Maths and English. They will be put through to end point assessment. The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role.
