Detailed Job Description

The following list is typical of the duties the post holder will be expected to perform. It is not necessarily exhaustive and other duties of a similar nature and level may be required from time to time.

  • Assist Technicians in the provision of motor vehicle maintenance, servicing and repair.
  • To use and maintain necessary tools and equipment in accordance with applicable codes of practice.
  • Work towards gaining competence in a number of basic tasks in relation to motor vehicle technician’s duties whilst complying with relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Assist with the maintaining of a clean and tidy work environment following supervisor/mentor instructions at all times.
  • Attend training courses and complete all required work within target timescales as set out in your individual learning plan, reviews, college time tables and tutor instructions.
  • Attend reviews with appointed Apprentice Manager and Mentors to discuss all aspects of progress.
  • To assist in maintaining a healthy, safe and secure environment and to act in accordance with policies and procedures.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

GCSE Maths and English A-D or 3/9 or Full Level 2 Functional Skills

Skills required

  • Keen interest in motor vehicles/bike/cars Hard working
  • Mechanically minded or like to know how things work
  • Good communicator
  • Can work independently and part of a team

Personal Qualities

  • Time keeping
  • Hardworking
  • Good work ethic
  • Able to deal with the physical aspects of the role

Future prospects

Possible progression onto an advanced level in Vehicle Maintenance.

Additional Information

Training provided

  • Delivery to be completed onsite and day release at Barnsley College
  • Apprentice to complete an intermediate technical certificate in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
  • Functional skills in Maths and English if required
