Are you an aspiring Chef keen to learn in a professional, award winning kitchen? This Nordic/Scandinavian inspired Café/Restaurant in the centre of Harrogate need a passionate and reliable chef to join their team working across our service kitchen and bakery.

As an Apprentice Chef you will join Balterzens Café whose vibrant and family friendly environment is a popular choice for Harrogate residents and visitors alike. This is a varied and exciting role and is perfect for those keen to learn to bake pastries, patisseries and desserts as well as gain experience in a fast paced service kitchen.

Your duties will include;

· Food preparation and service

· Baking and pastry service

· Safe use of knives

· Health and Safety

· General cleaning duties in the kitchen.

We are a pretty tight knit bunch here at Baltzersens so whilst this will be a busy and at times pressured role, there are plenty of like-minded people to socialise with outside of work.

There will be opportunities to be involved with recipe development and other training as the business continues to develop. We are all about rewarding our staff so plenty of opportunity to gain responsibility and in turn wage increases should you impress.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

GCSE grades A-D in Maths and English or equivalent, successful college interview, skills assessment, Maths and English assessment.

Skills required

We serve Scandinavian inspired food, so it would be useful if you had some basic background knowledge and enthusiasm for the fresh, seasonal style of food that we produce. Our chefs usually deliver food to customers themselves so you must have the confidence to interact at the table and be able to explain everything you are serving. We have a small and strong team, who work hard for one another and look after each other. You should want to be a part of this.

Personal Qualities

Keen to learn Can work under pressure Mature and responsible – able to work independently when required Punctual with a passion for delivering a great customer experience.

Future prospects

For a motivated, committed apprentice, the position will lead to a full time job.

Additional Information

Training provided

Intermediate Standard in Commis Chef, plus functional skills and technical certificate. The training will be provided by Harrogate College.

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
