Overall duties will include but are not limited to ordering stock and purchase requisitions for various departments, liaising with suppliers and engineers, negotiating prices and updating the stock cards.

Detailed Job Description


  • Updating price and lead times on the stock system
  • Chasing up suppliers for quotation requests
  • Progressing deliveries and any outstanding orders with suppliers
  • Liaising with Sales, Engineers and Production Control about any late orders
  • Reporting on Supplier performances
  • Learning and understanding the functions of Purchasing process
  • Developing and maintaining supplier records and information
  • Dealing with queries with suppliers
  • Preparation of documents including spreadsheets

General Office Duties

  • Filing, Scanning, dealing with incoming and outgoing calls Health & Safety
  • Uploading Health & Safety Documents onto internal intranet system (QMS)
  • Updating PPE Records, Risk Assessments, COSHH Reports
  • General Office Duties; Filing, Scanning, dealing with incoming and outgoing calls
  • Updating Spreadsheets

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

A - C in Maths & English is desirable

Skills required

GCSE Level educated

Personal Qualities


  • Good Organisational skills and ability to prioritise
  • Good verbal & written skills
  • Good time management skills
  • Highly motivated
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Good Communication skills
  • Attention to detail


  • Experience using Excel, Word & Outlook
  • Experience with using Spreadsheet formulas
  • Driving License

Future prospects

Future prospects will be discussed upon completion of the apprenticeship

Training provided

The successful candidate will work towards a NVQ qualiffication

Monday to Thursday 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. and Friday 8.00 a.m. to 1.45 p.m. based at our Sowerby Bridge site

Calderdale College - Learning Provider

Calderdale College offers apprenticeships across West Yorkshire. From September 2015, they’ll also offer Traineeship Programmes.
