Detailed Job Description

Launch your Engineering career in an exciting new role, working with the Engineering Managers, as your mentors, learning all aspects of the business.

With over 20 years’ experience in the industry, Loadpoint Precision Engineering Ltd specialises in project management from design to manufacture, offering a range of products for customers in a variety of business sectors across the Dorset area.

The successful candidate will start their training under a mechanical engineering apprenticeship. This will provide the solid foundations in which to build your career as an advanced Engineering Apprentice.

The ideal candidate will possess academic flair, practical ability and ambition. The successful candidate will undergo regular reviews, and will progress in accordance to performance, once established within the role.

Immediate duties and training will cover :

General engineering duties, understanding concepts job description and training to include but not exhaustive to: -

  • cnc milling and cnc turning
  • lathes, manual lathes, mills
  • metal work
  • able to read drawings
  • experienced/ able to use a vernier
  • training with a gillham
  • cad training as apprenticeship develops

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

Minimum 5 A-C grade GCSE or equivalent including English, Maths required

Skills required

Excellent communication skills, natural practical aptitude, technically minded, enquiring mind, attention to detail, good at Maths.

Solid academic record (GCSE or equivalent )

Ability to make key informed decisions based on relevant information.

Demonstrable ability towards practical work.

Demonstrable ability towards attention to detail.

Personal Qualities

Excellent communication skills, ambitious, manual dexterity, logical thinker, passionate, good team player, driven, loyal, organised, dedicated.

Future prospects

Apprentice to grow with the business and offer genuine career and salary progression for the right candidate

Additional Information

Training provided

The successful candidate will undertake an Advanced Apprenticeship including both on and off the job training.

Training may be carried out by Brockenhurst College at Unit 5 Brock House, Grigg Lane, Brockenhurst, SO42 7RE, as well as the employer premises for some workshops.

An Advanced Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering comprises of the following:

  • City and Guilds Technical Certificate L3
  • NVQ Level 3
  • Functional Skills in English, Maths and IT
  • ERR Certificate

Training will be part of the contracted hours agreed that makes up the working week.

"The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour from the 1st April 2017. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training."
