As a carpentry apprentice you will work under the supervision of a carpenter and will use your practical ability and co-ordination skills to help the carpenters with a range of tasks on and off site, whilst developing your wood work knowledge.

Detailed Job Description

Your main role will involve constructing, installing, finishing and repairing wooden structures on both commercial and residential buildings. With close mentoring support you will work with wooden structures, duties will include:-

Cutting and shaping timber for floorboards, skirting boards and window frames

making and assembling doors, window frames, staircases and fitted furniture

fitting wooden structures, like floor and roof joists, roof timbers, staircases, partition walls, and door and window frames (first fixings)

installing skirting boards, door surrounds, doors, cupboards and shelving, as well as door handles and locks (second fixings)

building temporary wooden supports for concrete that is setting

Making sure all areas are clean and suitable to work safely.

Have good practical and problem solving skills

good level of numeracy

have an awareness of safety issues and regulations

be able to work both as part of a team and alone

have a pleasant manner for dealing with customers

a methodical approach to work

the ability to pay attention to detail

be able to take and follow precise orders from their supervisors and colleagues

Personal Qualities

Enthusiastic & well organised

self-motivated & punctual

have a genuine interest in wood work and be keen to learn

good standard of fitness and able to work at height

Future prospects

We have already had a successful apprentice complete his apprenticeship and is now a full time employee of Olive & Umber Ltd. This is what we hope for our next apprentice and we will support them accordingly.
