Detailed Job Description

Henshaws work to support individuals with visual impairments and/or physical disabilities and learning difficulties to live in their own homes. This Apprenticeship is a unique opportunity to deliver outstanding support to service users in a way that promotes their independence, dignity, self-esteem, personal development and learning needs. You will support individuals to maintain and develop a range of daily living skills which will enable the individual to maintain and develop independence. As Community Support Worker you will:

  • Help and support the service users with their personal care needs as identified in their care plan. This may include washing, dressing, toileting, feeding and intimate care assistance.
  • Effectively implement monitor and review individual support plans.
  • Provide support within the current tenanted houses and additional support as part of the outreach service.
  • Provide flexible hours of work to support individuals to live in their own home, this includes shift work, some weekends and bank holidays.
  • Communicate effectively with the Manager and other members of the team.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and a safe living environment for people to live in their own homes.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings as and when required.
  • Ensure that the storage and administering of medication complies with the Society’s Drug Administration Policy – where the person does not self medicate.
  • Be willing to undertake domestic tasks to maintain a clean and homely environment.
  • Ensure that appropriate clear and accurate systems of recording, reporting and quality control are maintained. Owing to the nature of our work and the needs of our service users, we require applicants to be over the age of 18.

We are dedicated to the ongoing progression and development of our apprentices and will offer permanent positions and ongoing qualifications dependent on performance following successful completion of your apprenticeship.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

Good standard of literacy & numeracy Ability to undertake Level 2 Apprenticeship in Health care Willing to undertake Maths and English at Level 2 if required.

Skills required

Excellent communication skills Ability to listen and respond to service users appropriately Able to maintain written records

Personal Qualities

Caring and empathetic nature Good standards of personal hygiene Enthusiastic, respectful and sensitive

Future prospects

Permanent position and progression to Level 3 Senior Health Care Support Worker.

Additional Information

Training provided

Intermediate Standard in Health Care Support Worker, plus functional skills and technical certificate. The training will be provided by Harrogate College.

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
