To be trained in the role of a Nursery Assistant, you will contribute in providing a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the nursery. To give support to other personnel in the Nursery at all times.

Elmore Kindergarten was established in Sheffield in 1991 to provide full day and sessional care for children aged 3months to 5 years of age. We aim to be as flexible as reasonably possible in order to cater for the needs of busy and working parents. The nursery operates from 7.30am to 6.30pm 51 weeks per year, closed for Christmas week and bank holidays. At each of our nurseries, you will find a warm, welcoming and stimulating environment where children feel at home and are able to play, explore, discover and learn. There is a balance of highly qualified, trained and experienced practitioners who are continually trained to update and refresh their knowledge in childcare and safety . We value our staff and consider them to be the success of the nursery. We actively encourage them to develop their ideas and commitment to childcare. Together with our staff we aim to constantly improve standards and are currently working toward quality assurance system’s and investors in people. Each child has a designated key worker who shall be the communication point for the parent to discuss the child’s day at the nursery and ongoing development. Additionally there are on going development records for all children, that are available for parents to read, comment and return

Detailed Job Description

  • To supervise children in the day to day routine
  • Helping with Daily Diaries
  • Helping Children with their learning, play, educational and social development
  • To Supervise activities
  • Support all staff and engage in a good staff team
  • Ensure good hygiene and cleanliness is maintained at all times
  • Record accidents on the accident forms and ensure that parents sign them

Skills required

  • The ability to relate and interact with children
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with parents, carers and other childcare professionals
  • The ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions
  • Good observation and organisational skills
  • A willingness to learn new skills and ability to identify when they need to ask for support
  • A reasonable level of IT skills would be an advantage

Personal Qualities

  • Be passionate about a career in working with children
  • Able to commit to working full time
  • Piercings and nails must be practical due to health and safety of the Childcare assistant and the children
  • Good physical fitness and stamina

Future prospects

Upon completion of the Apprenticeship dependant on performance a permanent position will be offered at the Nursery
