Hairdressing Apprentice

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an apprentice who wants to learn and develop their skills to ensure a promising career within the industry. Initial duties will include reception duties, meeting and greeting clients, preparing hair, making refreshments for the clients, assisting the stylists and ensuring the salon is clean and tidy at all times.

Salon in the square Mawnan Smith is situated approximately three miles south of the port of Falmouth on the south coast of Cornwall, and is bounded on one side by the beautiful Helford River. Our team are dedicated to giving you expert advice on the perfect cut, style, colour, perm, hair up or wedding hairstyle, helping clients to look great and most importantly feel great. At Salon in the square we are dedicated to providing a personal, friendly and professional service. Our stylists between them have over 35 years of experience ready to cater for all of your hairdressing needs.

Detailed Job Description

  • Cleaning the salon and making sure the day runs smoothly.
  • Making refreshments for the clients.
  • Meeting and greeting clients, taking their coats and checking they are comfortable.
  • Reception duties – making appointments taking payments.
  • Assisting the stylists and preparing clients.
  • Removing colours and blow drying hair.

  • GCSE in Maths and English D / 3 or above.

Additional Information

Training provided

· Advise and consult with clients- to determine their ideas and requirements.

· Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp

· Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work- improving your performance at work and working well with your colleagues.

· Style and finish hair- skills to style hair using blow drying and finger drying techniques.

· Set and dress hair- using a range of setting and dressing techniques to achieve a variety of looks.

· Cut hair -creating a variety of basic looks.

· Colour and lighten hair- using semi-permanent, permanent and lightening products including the ability to colour a full head, regrowth, highlight and lowlight effects.

· Perm and neutralise hair- carrying out basic perming and neutralising services to the satisfaction of your client.

· Plait and twist hair to achieve a variety of different looks.

· Fulfil salon reception duties- welcoming and receiving people entering the salon, handling enquiries, making appointments, dealing with client payments and generally maintaining the reception area.

You will achieve:

  • NVQ level 2 in hairdressing.
  • Level 1 functional skills in English and Maths. (if required)

Working Days: Tuesday - Saturday. You will be required to work Saturdays.Can you get to work easily.
