Ablecare have a number of apprenticeship opportunities for individuals looking to develop a new career Cooking. We are looking to recruit individuals for Menwinnion Care Home in Penzance, The role will include supporting the head Cook and kitchen assistant. To prepare breakfast, Lunch, afternoon tea, Evening meal. with a range of differing dietary needs in a residential care environment. You will receive an excellent training programme that will develop your knowledge around key topics provide an opportunity for you to learn new skills working alongside the head Cook, Kitchen Assistant in a residential Care setting working alongside professionals in the workplace.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Preparing vegetables, help to cook homemade meals.
  • Taking consideration into special dietary requirements and individuals requests.
  • Making sure your workspace is clean and tidy at all times.
  • Washing cutlery and crockery making sure that all cooking equipment is kept in good condition stored correctly.
  • Help with preparing breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, supper.
  • Help with preparing of afternoon cakes.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Can work under pressure and to a high standard.
  • To complete temperature recordings in the SFBB book.

The programme is made up of 2 main qualifications - a L2 NVQ Diploma in Food Production & Cooking and a L2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles, which covers:

· Health, safety and security of the working environment

· Food safety and hygiene practices.

· Working as part of a team.

· Food preparation.

· Promoting and presenting menus.

· Healthier dishes.

· Complete kitchen documentation.

· The production of simple dishes including fish, poultry, meat and vegetables, bread and dough, rice and pastas, hot and cold desserts, cakes and biscuits. · The preparation of meals to meet relevant nutritional standards.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, possibility of a full time job role.
£3.50 12-14 weeks £1.00 extra. CRB charged to individuals. Uniform is tunic and badge are supplied, suitable black trousers and shoes must be purchased and worn by the individual. All staff are expected to maintain confidentiality and data protection at all times. Shifts will be on a 2 week rota basis. You will work a minimum of 30 hours per week.
