Detailed Job Description

We will ask you to prepare our menu of food and drinks, snacks, and other food options alongside the chef.

You will be able to send out our menu to excellent presentation standards independently, be presentable, and be conversational with our customers.

We are looking for an enthusiastic apprentice able to contribute to the team and with the ability to take initiative and importantly show commitment.

You would cover all aspects of kitchen operations to produce quality food:

  • Daily cleaning and food prep
  • knife skills
  • cleaning to a high standard
  • Complete Safe Food Better Business Sheets
  • Assist in controlling our budgets.

You will be able to follow strict portioning controlling and you will be expected to support all areas of the business including barista work and customer facing jobs.

Communication skills will be needed to work within a high pressured service team, plus a sensible approach to hygiene, health and safety.

Commitment and respect to one’s self, customers and colleagues is paramount with a pleasant and approachable attitude.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

A-C GCSE or equivalent English, Maths desired but not essential.

Food Hygiene essential

Skills required

Able to use kitchen equipment including knives and prepare basic dishes.

Able to work well under pressure.

Able to communicate well with colleagues and customers.

Able to produce consistent quality food.

Able to learn quickly on the job and complete training.

Able to make and serve hot drinks and beverages.

Future prospects

You will be trained to take on further responsibility as your role develops and after your apprenticeship has completed. Our business is expanding rapidly so there is lots of potential to progress within the business.

Additional Information

Training provided

The successful candidate will undertake an Intermediate Apprenticeship including both on and off the job training.

With units selected around Food Production and Food and Beverage Service Training will be carried out by Brockenhurst College to cover induction and blended learning and also at the employer premises.

The employer will provide training and apprentice support up to 20% of their time off the job including any College attendance.

An Intermediate Apprenticeship in the Hospitality Services Framework comprises of the following:

  • RQF Certificate level 2 Hospitality Team Member
  • Apprentikit resources via Highfield
  • Functional Skills in English Level 1,and Maths Level 1 if required
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities Award in the Hospitality Industry

Training will be part of the contracted hours agreed that makes up the working week.

"The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour from the 1st April 2017. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training."
