A&M Bacon are a leading costs firm dealing with all matters of legal costs. They are regularly instructed in various areas including commercial litigation, immigration claims, planning disputes, ATE premium recovery and personal injury claims for both Defendants and Claimant’s. The office is headed up by Practice Manager and Costs Lawyer Jessica Swannell. Jessica’s team regularly appear in Court representing their client on costs matters.

Detailed Job Description

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing Bills of Costs and statement of costs
  • Ensuring all deadlines are met
  • Drafting Replies when necessary
  • Drafting Points of Dispute
  • Negotiating settlement of Costs
  • Assisting with the Admin team
  • Undertaking all training provided by the employer
  • Assisting Costs Lawyers with complex cases
  • Preparation of Costs Budgets
  • Preparing Budgets
  • Shadowing all hearings
  • Attending all hearings on own files as mandatory (once training provided)
  • Working in house at clients as/when required
  • Attending networking events as/when required
  • Preparing Skeleton Arguments
  • Preparing all Legal Forms and necessary evidence
  • Ensuring good file management
  • Supporting and developing A&M Bacon Limited
  • Writing various articles
  • Join our internal Business Development team
  • Liaising with the Court and preparing bundles
  • Doing necessary research
  • Set up and become active on LinkedIn. Grow your name
  • Travelling to client’s offices and conferences in England (usually around London) from time to time

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

A minimum of 3 A Levels A*-C, and 5 GCSEs A*-C including Maths and English or equivalent qualifications.

Skills required

  • Excel
  • Word
  • Microsoft Office 365 is advantageous but not essential

  • Attention to detail
  • Able to conduct oneself in a professional manner with clients, but able to have fun within the office as well
  • Able to work within a small team
  • Able to help colleagues, as we class ourselves as a small family who help and support each other

Future prospects

A&M invest heavily in staff and after successful completion of the Paralegal course, A&M would like to place the candidate on the CILEx or Solicitor course.

Additional Information

Training provided

As a Paralegal Apprentice with BPP, you will complete the Paralegal Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. Additional learning within the apprenticeship will enable you to be awarded a Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education in Legal Services which can afford you exemptions from the first year of the Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship (providing Contract Law was chosen as the elective module).

Your apprenticeship shall be delivered by a blend of online and face-to-face training from BPP University Law School and on-the-job learning.
