Apprentice Support Worker

You will enable the people we support to lead fulfilling lives based upon their personal support needs. You need to work to the standards set internally (by HFT) and externally (for example, by the Care Quality Commission).

Hft is a national charity, providing services for people with learning disabilities throughout England. We support people to live the best lives possible - whether by providing support for just a couple of hours a week, or 24 hours a day. Our services include Supported Living, Residential Care, and Short Break services. We empower people to make their own choices, including finding a job, building friendships and relationships and taking part in activities.

Detailed Job Description

Day to day duties include -

  • Support people with learning disabilities in line with their support plan
  • Support people with personal care (toileting and bathing)
  • Encourage people to engage in everyday home, social & leisure activities
  • Support people with their health needs (taking medication & attending GP appointments)
  • Keep accurate records
  • Work positively with colleagues, families & external organisations
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

  • Grades C or above in Maths and English are preferred but not a necessity
  • A Health & Social Care qualification is desirable (Level 1 or 2)
  • DBS Check will be required

  • Speak clearly using positive, simple, straight forward language
  • Tackle issues with a positive frame of mind

Future prospects

Hourly rate will be assessed as you develope and train to a higher standard, potentially rising to £8.12. On completion of the 12 month apprenticeship program, depending on performance, you may be offered a full time position at HFT.

Successful candidates will be required to work shifts, undertake sleep-in duties and/or waking nights. Having a full and current UK / EU driving licence would be an advantage.
