Mears Care are looking to recruit Apprentice Care Workers to join our team to support and enable our service users to remain in their own homes. We provide bespoke care to our service users based on their specific needs.

Mears provides high quality and flexible care for older and disabled people who want to avoid costly nursing homes and would like to continue living in their own homes. We know that choosing a care provider can be a tough decision but we are here to provide extra support, whether it be short term help after a hospital stay or longer term assistance with personal care, cooking, cleaning, medication or shopping. Whether you want one hour a week or live in care, our friendly, qualified care workers offer a wide range of care services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week across the UK. Mears Care Laindon provide service to people living in their own homes throughout a number of areas - we cover Enfield; Havering; Loughton and South Essex.

Detailed Job Description

1. Personal Care:

  • Dressing and undressing / preparing the Service User for day care or trips out.
  • Washing / bathing / showering / shaving / grooming / cleaning teeth.
  • Hair care (washing / brushing). Nail care (fingernails only).
  • Toileting and all aspects of personal hygiene. Continence management.
  • Care of pressure sores (under appropriate nursing supervision).
  • Getting in and out of bed.
  • Assisting with the use of aids to Daily Living / rehabilitation aids, as required.
  • Helping with rehabilitation programmes, as prescribed by Healthcare professionals.
  • Day / evening / night sitting services, as required
  • Assistance with stoma care.

2. Healthcare – Assisting the Service User to take prescribed medication in accordance with locally approved policies and procedures.

3. Dietary Care - Preparation of snacks and meals according to the Service User’s likes / dislikes. Assisting with feeding, as required.

4. Domestic / Household Services:

  • General cleaning duties, to include cleaning / dusting / vacuuming / polishing.
  • Bed-making.
  • Clearing refuse and rubbish.
  • Laundering / hand-washing / ironing, as required.
  • Household fuel management.
  • Shopping, and the preparation of shopping lists and assistance with budgeting.

5. Personal services:

  • Assistance with personal finances, to include paying bills.
  • Personal planning (birthdays / anniversaries etc.)
  • Democratic rights (voting cards etc.).

Please note due to the nature of the role and administering medicine, you will need to be aged 18+ to apply for this role.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

The ideal candidate will have GCSEs in Maths and English at C grade or above. Functional Skills equivalent will also be accepted.

Skills required

  • If you don’t have previous experience supporting older people, people with physical disabilities, people with Learning Disabilities then don’t worry – we provide full training and on the job shadowing and support!
  • Preferably you would be a driver with access to your own transport, however, we also do have vacancies for walkers at present.

Future prospects

After successful completion of the Level 2 Health and Social Care qualification there is an opportunity to progress to a Team leader, Care Coordinator and Branch Manager.

Behaviour, Skills and Knowledge

Shifts are 7am – 2.00pm; 3pm to 10pm every day. You would have to commit to at least 2 evening shifts a week.
