As a carpentry apprentice you will work under the supervision of a carpenter and will use your practical ability and co-ordination skills to help the carpenters with a range of tasks on and off site, whilst developing your wood work knowledge.

Detailed Job Description

Your main role will involve constructing, installing, finishing and repairing wooden structures on both commercial and residential buildings. With close mentoring support you will work with wooden structures, duties will include:-

  • Cutting and shaping timber for floorboards, skirting boards and window frames
  • making and assembling doors, window frames, staircases and fitted furniture
  • fitting wooden structures, like floor and roof joists, roof timbers, staircases, partition walls, and door and window frames (first fixings)
  • installing skirting boards, door surrounds, doors, cupboards and shelving, as well as door handles and locks (second fixings)
  • Making sure all areas are clean and suitable to work safely.

Future prospects

Subject to completion of the two year programme and achievement of the level of skills required, a permanent position would be offered.
