Detailed Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to start your career in Business Administration with major construction contractor Buckingham Group Contracting LTD. You will be based on a multi-million pound stadium project in Monks Cross in York.

Buckingham Group have a strong culture of promoting from within and therefore provide an excellent start to careers in the administration side of construction. You’ll have the opportunity to gain valuable experience working on site on a live construction project opening your eyes to the various roles available in operational business administration.

Your day-to-day role and responsibilities will include:

  • General office administrative duties including answering the phone, taking messages and customer/client liaison
  • Providing support to our design teams, site managers and contract partners by being a key point of contact throughout the investigation, design and construction of a scheme
  • Monitoring both current and future costs, preparing payments and internal cost reports and identifying and recording any changes
  • Document control and data management
  • Preparing and checking cost estimates and creating requisitions
  • Managing relationships with a range of different parties to ensure deadlines are met

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

GCSE Maths and English at grade C (4) or above desirable but not essential.

Future prospects

An apprenticeship in business administration opens up a number of future career prospects in the construction industry - with progression opportunities in areas of commercial or operational administration and even business support roles. After completing your level 2 apprenticeship there is the opportunity to go on to study a level 3 qualification whilst working in the area you enjoy the most.

Training provided

Intermediate Apprenticeship in Business and Administration.

This apprenticeship is delivered through work based learning, this means that all training is done at the workplace eliminating the need to attend college. The successful candidate will be allocated an assessor who will visit on site every 4-6 weeks and deliver all of the training to gain the qualification and provide the resources to complete work between visits.

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices will be £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. Once you commence at the Retailer, further induction training will be supplied by the Retailer. You will also receive visits and other training from the Learning Skills Partnership representative.
