Your role will be to support the Co-ordinators with essential administration tasks to ensure the smooth running and reporting of ‘The Edge’.

Originally established in 1920, our St Albans Campus opened its doors to First World War ex-service men under the Officers’ Agricultural Training Scheme and to the Women’s Land Army members.

There are approximately 1,500 full and part-time courses offered to approximately 10,000 students who come from a wide variety of regions. These courses range from vocational courses with strong links to employers through to elite sports, the arts and a wide variety of A Levels. We are also nationally recognised for our outstanding provision for learners with mild and severe learning difficulties.

Detailed Job Description

You will gain a useful insight into the work of the department, which includes working with students, tutors and employers to ensure our students have the opportunity to access meaningful work experience alongside their study programme and other activities that will help prepare our students for life after college.

You will have the fantastic opportunity to gain experience in a busy department as well as studying to achieve a nationally recognised qualification; equipping you for the best possible start in your career. The Intermediate Apprenticeship in Business Administration will give you an excellent foundation for moving onto many other careers including progression to a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. The qualification is built from units which are chosen to not only meet the needs of the workplace but also to extend your knowledge.

SUMMARY OF POST To work as part of a flexible team providing administrative support at a designated College campus, and that all work is carried out in accordance with agreed College administrative procedures and quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Work flexibly as part of a team, providing a high quality administrative service, to ensure that a high quality administrative support service is provided. Communicating with members of the public, students and college staff and to do this in a customer-centered manner working as a member of a team

• Deal with routine correspondence and enquiries from learners, parents, employers, outside agencies and College staff, referring on to appropriate specialist staff in accordance with College procedures

• Undertake routine clerical tasks such as filing and photocopying, and maintain stocks of stationery, supplies and information leaflets

• As required, contribute to the staffing of the reception and telephone answering service for the Campus, on a rota basis, to ensure the provision of an efficient and helpful response to learners and visitors

• Contribute to the development, maintenance and monitoring of systems, registers, records and databases for the efficient inputting, storage and retrieval of data, as required.

• Process invoices in line with budgetary expenditure for the team, individual or function

Qualifications required

A minimum of A*-C (9-4) in Maths and English GCSE or Functional Skills equivalent

Skills required

Good organisational skills

Some of experience of work whether paid or voluntary

Some experience of working with a range of software packages- word, excel, outlook

Higher Level 4 Apprenticeship in Business admin

Prior to shortlisting your application for any vacancy, your qualifications will be checked. The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is currently £3.50 per hour from 1st April 2017. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over, in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training. For more information visit: Under 18s will not be expected to work more than 40 hours. You must check how you are going to travel to the workplace, including mileage, expense and time. Your qualification results will be checked.
