Detailed Job Description

Archant Finance (AF) provides high quality low cost services to its customers throughout the Archant group. The Assistant Accountant serves AF customers by:

1. Completing accurate and efficient processing of transactions.

2. Supporting the finance objectives through everything they do.

3. Adhering to clearly defined processes.

4. Providing excellent customer service Job dimensions

The main responsibilities of the apprenticeship post will be to:

1. To calculate and input data into financial systems as appropriate

2. General ledger journal preparation

3. Supporting period close, month end reporting and variance analysis

4. Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely accounts, forecasts and budgets

5. To deal with queries and challenge breaches in policy

6. To provide excellent customer service to both our internal and external customers.


 Basic starting salary up to £19,000

 Full 25 days paid holiday + statutory bank holidays

 Opportunity to complete accounting qualifications – 1 st year ACCA / CIMA /ACA depending on your chosen career path

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

GCSEs at grades A* - C inc. Maths and English - essential

A Levels at grades A - C in a related discipline (maths, business, accounting, economics - essential

An undergraduate degree level in a related discipline (as above) - desirable

Skills required

Computer literate and proficient in the use of Microsoft products.

 Strong Excel skills, ideally with SQL or VBA knowledge

 Able to pick up and use new systems quickly and efficiently

 Understanding or appreciation for finance, accounts or business

Personal Qualities

Self-motivation and enthusiasm

Positive outlook with a “can do” attitude

Committed to the use of technology to solve problems

Be able to demonstrate integrity and discretion

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent attention to detail

Additional Information

Training provided

ACCA is suitable for those who would like a career in finance, business or accountancy, who wish to become a Chartered Certified Accountant. It takes around three to four years to complete the qualification. You’ll learn both practical and technical skills to equip you for a future in business. You can sit ACCA Knowledge Level exams on demand once you have completed a paper.

If the ACCA is not the qualification you would like to pursue, then you CIMA and ACA are also offered at Level 7.
