Detailed Job Description

The British Geological Survey, through its Geoanalytics and Modelling directorate, develops a wide range of spatial data products, services and technologies which aim to help people and practitioners better understand the subsurface environment where they live or work. Many companies do not always realise that these products and services exist and BGS does not always convey its information in a manner that is understandable and useable. There is, therefore, a need to develop more focussed marketing campaigns to ensure wider uptake of this information. This apprenticeship provides an opportunity for an individual to provide digital support through:

  • Working with the teams in Geoanalytics and Modelling to develop user need concepts briefs for new products and services.
  • Looking after user engagement/experience feedback.
  • Helping to manage Geoanalytics and Modelling stakeholder and early adopter contacts.
  • Providing support with developing digital product marketing campaigns.
  • Supporting the development of communication strategies for our digital products and services which may include online newsletters, web pages, blogs and social media.
  • Monitoring, reviewing and analysing online activity from the above.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

  • Minimum of 5 GCSES, including Maths and English. To ideally also include Computing / IT and / or Science.

Skills required

  • Ability to work effectively within teams and independently.
  • Confident in applying newly acquired skills to the business environment.
  • Logical and creative thinking skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Aptitude for working in computer based working environment.

Personal Qualities

  • Interest in the work of the BGS.
  • Keen interest in digital marketing (e.g. through social media, blogging, newsletters etc.)

Desirable:

  • Interest in environmental science.

Future prospects

  • Opportunity to stay and progress with the company.
