Description

Hertzian is looking for confident individuals, who are willing to learn. You will be expected to do your own research on tasks, with the help of your mentors when appropriate. You will require a good knowledge and understanding of programming. Hertzian expects a high level of commitment to work and professionalism.

You will also have the choice to attend Hertzian events and extracurricular activities hosted.

You will report to your line manager Christopher Weavill who is the Chief Operations Officer. However, you will be answerable to any of your senior directors within the business.

Your duties may include:

1. Systems development

2. Web development

3. Customer support and liaison

You will be expected to research and work independently while having your mentors available when necessary. You will be shown our system infrastructure and then given appropriate tasks by your senior. You will be expected to work to deadlines and communicate your progress clearly and effectively.

You are required to know at least one programming language (Such as Python, Java, or C++)

Other skills you should have:

  • A solid grasp of programming fundamentals: procedural programming, Object Orientation, the stack and heap, overloading/overriding, Variables, constants, data types, collections.
  • Experience with the use and operation of a Linux distribution or other UNIX system.
  • An understanding of system-to-system communication protocols such as IP addressing and HTTP request/response architecture.
  • Fundamentals of at least one server-side technology (such as PHP or Node.js)
  • Fundamentals of a database technology such as an SQL distribution, Oracle Database, IBM DB2, MongoDB, Datastax, Clusterpoint, DynamoDB

As a Software Developer you would be required to build and test simple, high-quality code across front end, logic and database layers. You will typically be working as part of a larger team, in which you will have responsibility for some of the straightforward elements of the overall project. You will need to be able to interpret design documentation and specifications. The customer requirements will typically be defined and agreed by more experienced or specialist members of the team, such as a business analyst or technical architect.
