Detailed Job Description

Your duties and responsibilities in this role will consist of:

Your primary focus will be the development of Android applications and their integration with back-end services. You will be working alongside other engineers and developers working on different layers of the infrastructure. Therefore, commitment to teamwork, collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design, and creating quality products is essential.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

5 GCSEs grades A*-C/9-4 or equivalent (including English Language and Maths)

Skills required

  • Familiarity with other object-oriented programming languages
  • Using and integrating web APIs
  • Familiarity with unit testing
  • Familiarity with SQL, REST, JIRA
  • Familiar with Agile development

Requirements:

  • Proficient in Java
  • Working knowledge of the general mobile landscape, architectures, trends, and emerging technologies
  • Previous software development experience (minimum 1-year mobile or 3 years Java)
  • Experience working with the Android SDK, third-party libraries and APIs
  • Solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle

Personal Qualities

  • An ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team
  • An ability to work on a series of projects at one time
  • Able to complete a project from start to finish
  • A great communicator, both verbal and written

Additional Information

Training provided

The Estio Training programme gives young people the opportunity to get hands on experience in the IT industry whilst still employed in a real paid job with no cost or debt.

Learners will receive ten weeks of intensive training. Whilst in the workplace, apprentices will also receive continual assessment, and help and guidance from a dedicated trainer who will be there to ensure that they get the most from their work experience.

This apprenticeship will give you a Level 3 Software Development Technician Standard with training in areas such as:

  • Functional skills, Maths L2 and English L2
  • Software Design Fundamentals
  • User Interface Design
  • System Development
  • Software Development Context & Methodologies
  • Database Software
  • Programming

Some of these modules will include an option to take an examination in order to receive a professional certificate.
