Apprentice Kitchen Assistant / Chef
Role Description:
Devonshire House Care Home are looking for someone to join their hospitality team!
You will be working as part of the kitchen team to assist the main cook, who is responsible for preparing and cooking all food to the residents.
You will also ensure that the work area is kept as clean as possible at all times.
This is a busy and fast paced environment where you’ll learn the basics and more, of a busy commercial kitchen.
Your responsibilities will include:
Maintaining a high level of hygiene and work in a safe manner at all times
Ensuring basic cleaning jobs are carried out as quickly as possible
Plating a range of breakfasts, starters, main courses, sandwiches, side dishes, and desserts
Washing, peeling and cutting a range of vegetables on a daily basis
Learning about food safety
Cleaning down the kitchen after service
Assisting with receiving of deliveries, putting stock away promptly
Working effectively as part of the kitchen team and keep in communication with your colleagues

Experience is preferred but not necessary, as full training will be provided.
No specific formal qualifications are required.
Hospitality Team Member Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the chosen career route, each standards has set knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be successful within the job role. This will include the completion of functional skills in Maths and English.
Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12 months training and the employer and Babcock regional trainer confirm they have met all the requirements of the standard they will be put through to end point assessment. The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role.
Each Apprentice will be supported throughout the apprenticeship by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, face to face training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help them to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare them for the end of point assessment.
You must be passionate about cooking, food and the catering industry, friendly and a willing team member.
Good personal hygiene standards.
Flexible working pattern will be required.
This will lead to a permanent position, and pay rise upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
