Description

Working with the IT Manager, Business Analysts, Project Teams and system users you will help develop information systems that will integrate with existing financial management, customer relationship management and external systems. This role will allow you to develop new competencies and skills as the projects demand and progress. You will be expected to build strong relationships with all information systems users and teams and enable them to maximise their use of data and increase use of business intelligence tools, primarily Power BI, to develop reporting services throughout the whole organisation. As part of the ShelterBox team you will be expected to keep within the charity’s aims and objectives.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute design and analytical input into development projects.
  • Develop information systems using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Contribute to application development using Agile methodologies.
  • Contribute to testing and ongoing support of information systems.
  • Develop and deliver reporting solutions using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Assist with the organisation and maintenance of data in all information systems.
  • Develop and/or use APIs to integrate data from existing systems and/or external providers.
  • Provide IT Helpdesk support to users as and when required.
  • Other projects or duties as may be assigned by the IT Manager and are appropriate to the role.

Essential:

  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Enthusiasm and a passion for software development.
  • Understanding of Object Oriented Programming languages such as - C#, Java, PHP, Powershell.
  • Experience of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
  • A good approach to resolving systems and application problems.

Desirable:

  • Experience of Mendix or equivalent low code development tools.
  • Scrum and Agile development methodologies.
  • Some understanding of Ajax, Dojo, JSON and JQuery.
  • Experience of SQL Server and/or Postgres.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools, including Power BI
  • Good understanding of RDBMS with some knowledge of modelling relational database schemas.
  • Some knowledge of SQL.
GCSE grade C/4 in Maths and English or equivalent.

Programme Content:

Taught Sessions at College (1 day a week):

You will be given the opportunity to gain the following industry recognised professional qualifications:

  • BCS Systems Development Essentials.
  • At least one another software development qualification Work-based Learning:

On successful completion of the apprenticeship there is a possibility of a job role.
Working Times: 09.00 – 17.00. We offer a competitive pension scheme, generous holiday allowance of 25 days plus bank holidays as well as a number of family friendly policies and professional development opportunities. This role will be based in Truro and will be primarily Monday to Friday (with a day off in the week for college). If there was a major disaster, additional hours of work may be required.
