Description
The Hog’s Back Hotel & Spa have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Commis Chef to join their busy team.
We are looking for an individual who is looking to take their first step into a world of catering.
We want you to be passionate about high quality, fresh food. You will be working with a team of experienced chefs who want to give the individual opportunity to progress and gain the experience and qualifications necessary to move them onto the next level in catering.
In your role as Apprentice Commis Chef your duties will include;
•Learning to cook food for all aspects of the menu
•Preparation of food
•Arranging food items on serving plates
•Making sure food supplies are stored properly and used resourcefully
•Ensuring the kitchen is clean and organised at all times
•Adhering to hygiene protocols and best food practices
•Maintaining a ‘clean as you go’ work ethic.
You will be enrolled on a level 2 Commis Chef qualification delivered to you by an award winning training provider! This will involve a monthly visit from a Regional Trainer to deliver training, coach you and observe you whilst you work.

Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the Apprentices’ chosen career route, each standard has set knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be successful within the job role. This will include the completion of functional skills in Maths and English.
Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12 months training and the employer and Babcock regional trainer confirm they have met all the requirements of the standard they will be put through to end point assessment. The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role.
Each Apprentice will be supported throughout the apprenticeship by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, face to face training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help them to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare them for the end of point assessment
You must be reliable, able to handle pressure, calm and honest with a desire to succeed.
You will have a career within an 11 strong hotel company with progression to a contracted salary position.
