Description

Fantastic opportunity for an Apprentice Groom (aged 16-18 only) to join an eventing and breeding Stud to complete their Level 2 Horse Care Apprenticeship.

Horses are our passion and the stud has been developed to try and produce good young stock from talented and well-bred mares using stallions to complement existing qualities.

Mares run together in a herd with their foals, who are weaned on site when ready. We have a retired pony who serves as a guiding light to the colts when they leave their mothers.

General yard duties include;

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning
  • Tacking up
  • Feeding
  • Filling hay nets
  • Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug changing
  • Paddock maintenance
  • Schooling – for the right candidate
  • Riding – for the right candidate
  • First aid
  • Exercising horses from the ground (lunging, horse walker, long reining, pessoa training etc.)
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist

Experience with horses is essential
Must be able to work towards Level 1 or higher in Functional Skills maths and English
Full training through the Equine Apprenticeship supported by Haddon Training.

Successful candidate will be;

  • Aged 16-18
  • Passionate about eventing horses and breeding
  • Hard-working and able to use own initiative
Possibility of Level 3 Horse Care Apprenticeship on completion of Level 2.
Accommodation available and possibility of livery for own horse
