The Novotel in Stevenage have a fantastic opportunity available for an apprentice chef.

This is a perfect opportunity to start your career as a chef. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our experienced and talented kitchen team.

General Duties will include:

•Preparation of vegetables, salads, starters, soups, sauces,

•Plating up meals

•Progressing on to prep and cooking main meals and making desserts.

•Cleaning & Sanitising

•Adhering to Food Safety requirements

As an Apprentice Chef you will be expected to learn the dishes as shown to you, to the standard set by the head chef, at this stage of your career it is understood that you are still learning.

You will remain calm while multi-tasking, as he or she will often be called upon to carry out many different duties simultaneously in a brief amount of time. To learn and understand how to carry out basic functions in every section of the kitchen providing the opportunity to experience, consider and value each section with a view to choosing an area where you feel most inspired.

You will be supported and Supervised by the Head Chef.

This is a full-time position with great development possibilities for the right individual who is looking for a career not just a job.

You will ensure procedures and schedules are followed for cleaning and sanitizing food preparation/storage areas, and ensure that any equipment is clean and maintained.

You will assist in preparing required quality and volumes, ensuring the smooth running of the kitchen during service. To be aware of, and follow, emergency, safety and first aid procedures.

As an Apprentice you will be included on a Commis Chef Qualification, this will involve a Vocational Learning Advisor will visit you on a regular basis to deliver the training and coach the Apprentice and will be observing whilst you work.

Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the Apprentices’ chosen career route, each standards has set knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be successful within the job role. This will include the completion of functional skills in Maths and English.

Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12 months training and the employer and Babcock regional trainer confirm they have met all the requirements of the standard they will be put through to end point assessment. The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role.

Each Apprentice will be supported throughout the apprenticeship by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, face to face training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help them to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare them for the end of point assessment.

You need to be passionate about food and have a strong desire to work in the hospitality industry. You will need to have a positive attitude, be well presented, motivated, reliable and punctual. You will need to be able to adapt to change.
To potentially be employed on a full time basis within a hotel in the Fairview Collection.
