Today, as the nation’s number one motoring organisation, we offer a range of excellent products and services to millions of customers.

Car Technicians carry out a range of services and repairs to vehicles. It’s a job that calls for a unique combination of technical, retail and customer service skills.

Over the two year Apprenticeship, you’ll learn all you need to get going, working to an ‘Auto-care Technician’ Level 2 qualification. Many apprentices from the scheme go on to join the AA in a permanent position.

Year 1: £9,000

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

You are not required to have any prior automotive experience as we’ll train you in that through our extensive Apprenticeship Scheme with The AA.

Skills required

You’ll be keen to learn and be a focussed methodical person, you don’t need any automotive experience as we’ll train you in that.

  • A strong desire to to pursue a career in automotive mechanical engineering

Future prospects

Additional Information

Training provided

A Personal Tutor will visit monthly to assess your progress and help you along. Support will also be on hand from an AA peer mentor and an Early Careers Business Partner.

In a fast-moving car industry, you won’t be bored. You’ll take 18 months for distance learning, and also spend six months on ‘block release’ on site at the Bournemouth training academy.

The time you spend away from home will be expenses paid, we’ll pay for your hotel, travel and meals while you’re there.

The current Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW) is £3.70 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
