Detailed Job Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a higher level apprentice to join our busy Finance department based in Coalville. The apprentice would receive significant on the job training in both Management and Financial accounts, alongside study for the professional qualification, developing in to a well rounded qualified accountant.

The apprentice will play an important role in the day to day functions of the Management/Financial Accounts team. Working with a number of experienced qualified and part qualified colleagues to gain a breadth of knowledge and experience.

During the 3 year programme duties will include but not limited to;

  • To assist the Management Accountants in the production of the Management Accounts for the Group.
  • To assist in the production of the annual budget for the Group following discussion with the Managing Directors and Management Team.
  • To assist the Senior Financial Accountant in the production of the Annual Year End Accounts for the Group.
  • To assist the Senior Financial Accountant with the external audit including liaison with auditors, preparation of detailed working papers and other such documentation required for review.
  • To assist the Senior Management Accountant and Senior Financial Accountant to provide advice, guidance and financial information to the Board, Executive Management Team and Management Team.
  • To attend Board and Committee Meetings of the Group and make presentations as and when required.
  • To support the Management Teams of the Group to adhere to the service charge process.
  • To provide information and support to the budget holders within the Group to assist them in the delivery of their budgets.
  • To maintain an awareness of relevant regulatory and statutory requirements affecting the preparation of statutory accounts.
  • To maintain the underlying financial records of the Group in accordance with statutory and auditors requirements.
  • Maintain an accurate and up to date Asset Register for Associated Companies ensuring that all depreciation, additions and disposals are dealt with in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Support the monthly close down of the ledgers ensuring that all transactions and journals are processed and the Trial Balance is accurate and complete.
  • Ensure all Balance Sheet accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis and reconciling items dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Senior Financial Accountant to ensure all VAT and Corporation Tax returns are completed and submitted on time.
  • To advise the Senior Management / Financial Accountant, Head of Finance and the Group Finance Director of any irregularities.
  • Co-ordination and reporting of department KPI’s.

Requirements and Prospects

Qualifications required

  • A-Levels
  • AAT Accounting Technician or Degree in Accounting & Finance or similar

Skills required

  • Experience of working within a financial environment
  • Creative approach to identifying and resolving problems
  • Excellent ICT Skills
  • Ability to challenge people and practices
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines

Future prospects

It is anticipated that at the end of the 3 year programme an opportunity may be available for the right candidate to progress to an accountant role within the company.

Additional Information

Training provided

Full on-the-job training and support will be provided to enable the successful applicant to undertake the full range of duties required of the role. All apprentices are required to complete and evidence 20% of the job learning whilst on their apprenticeship.

In addition, the apprenticeship will be delivered primarily on our online platform, Babington Online and you will receive full support from our dedicated team of Training Advisors via workshops, webinars and regularly scheduled reviews, conducted by Skype and/or Phone.

Our Accounting Professional Level 7 Programme consists of the following:

* Accounting Professional Level 7 Standard

* Functional Skills in Literacy and Numeracy Level 2

* End-point Assessment conducted by an external provider (Synoptic case study, project report)

The end-point assessment is designed to enable apprentices to demonstrate that they are fully conversant in the skills knowledge and behaviours expected of individuals at this level. It is designed to provide assessors with a holistic view of the apprentice, and to allow them to assess to what extent the apprentice meets or exceeds the apprenticeship standard.
