New Bridge Multi Academy Trust (MAT) presently comprises New Bridge School, New Bridge Learning Centre, Spring Brook Academy, Hollinwood Academy and Hawthorns School. We support the learning, social and pastoral needs of over 700 young people aged between 4 and 19 years. In addition we also offer a 19-25 years provision, New Bridge Horizons, and a cafeteria concession, The Atrium, based in Oldham town centre. We also have supported student placements at the Royal Oldham Hospital and Manchester Metropolitan University. All these components form the New Bridge Group.

Part of the New Bridge Multi Academy Trust, Spring Brook Academy is an all-age school which caters for pupils with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, operating on a split site basis. Spring Brook Upper School, the secondary department, is based at our Dean Street site in Failsworth. The school has extensive experience of working with vulnerable groups and young people with complex emotional and behavioural difficulties, providing a holistic approach to improving pupils’ personal, social and emotional development. The school delivers a personalised curriculum and offers qualifications up to GCSE level.

We are looking to recruit a number of resilient, committed, energetic and highly motivated Teaching Assistant Apprentices who will relish the opportunity to develop their own practice within one of the UK’s most diverse educational organisations. As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant you will work alongside the class teacher with a group of pupils with a range of complex needs (social, emotional and mental health), to ensure that barriers to learning are reduced and to support pupils to achieve their full potential. Due to the challenging nature of this environment, previous experience in a school, caring or similar environment would be an advantage and we will provide training for the right candidates. The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate in their application that they have: · The emotional and physical resilience necessary when working with disaffected and challenging young people with a range of complex needs · High expectations of young people, and a commitment to raising standards of attainment to ensure that they can achieve their full educational potential · A genuine appreciation of the potential barriers to a pupil’s learning, and sensitivity towards their circumstances and life experiences · The ability to build positive relationships with the class group, ensuring consistency and continuity on a daily basis · The ability to work effectively with all members of the Spring Brook team
No formal experience is necessary; however previous relevant experience would be advantageous. No formal qualifications are required, however candidates must be able to demonstrate Literacy and Numeracy skills equivalent to Level 1 of the National Qualification & Credit Framework
The role of the Teaching Assistant is to provide valuable, practical assistance to class teachers in both the classroom and in extracurricular activities. General Teaching Assistant duties include: 1. Preparation of teaching areas and resources for lessons 2. Ensuring classrooms are kept in a safe condition for learning 3. Maintaining and arranging the orderly and secure storage of resources 4. Supporting teaching and learning activities under the direction of the class teacher including 1:1 and in small groups 5. Working under the guidance of the class teacher in planning and implementation of work programs for pupils with additional needs 6. Developing pupils attainment 7. Undertaking basic record keeping 8. Supervision of students at break and lunch times 9. Participating in After School and Holiday club activities

Successful candidates will be employed on a 12 or 18 months contract and complete a classroom support diploma during that time. Whilst we are unable to guarantee a permanent contract at the end of the Apprenticeship we expect opportunities for permanent employment to become available.
The New Bridge Group is working in partnership with Aspire Education Academy who will deliver the formal training as a legal requirement of the apprenticeship.
