Responsible to:

  • Team Leaders (TL), Deputy Managers (DM)
  • Senior Management Team (SMT) and Nominated Individual.

Overall Purpose:

  • To provide a caring, supportive and personalised service to our service users, working within the requirements of the law, best practice and of Bowden Derra Park Limited.
  • Perform care duties in line with the care plan, to provide the appropriate level of support for individuals to lead fulfilling lives, whilst respecting the service user’s dignity, privacy and independence as far as is practical.

Main duties:

To provide personal and practical care and support to people (service users) using our services, including, but not limited to:-

  • Support service users with personal care to include getting up in the morning, dressing, undressing, washing, bathing, going to bed and using the toilet facilities as appropriate.
  • Help service users with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence and help in use and care of aids and personal equipment.
  • Providing access to relevant healthcare.
  • Assist TL, DM and SMT in supporting service users to make their own decisions by accessing a balanced range of information and presenting it in a way that is easy to understand.
  • Support service users in a range of activities and services to achieve individual needs and goals.
  • To set tables and trays, serve meals, feed service users who need help, prepare light meals and wash up, tidy and clear away.
  • To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of service users through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreation.
  • Support service users with complex care needs with supervision.

To communicate with relevant individuals regarding the service users we care for, to include:-

  • Read and write in care plans/log books and take part in staff and service users’ meetings as directed.
  • To maintain accurate, concise, up-to-date and timely records of the service users care, diary sheets, medication forms, financial transaction sheets and timesheets.
  • To actively talk and listen to service users, allowing for their personal choice.
  • Maintain confidentiality in respect of service users, records, staff, Bowden Derra Park Limited and third party information.
  • Inform the TL, DM and SMT of any concerns you have with any service user, maintenance or security issues linked to the building and equipment, no matter how minor.
  • To report to the DM or SMT on any aspect of the service user’s care which, in the view of the support worker, warrants investigation or urgent action.
  • To report immediately to the DM or SMT any noticeable changes in health, behaviour or circumstances of service users, maintaining the service user’s right of privacy and confidentiality.
  • Maintain good working relationships with team members and service user’s relatives and friends.

To follow company policies and procedures to include:-

  • To carry out accurately, and in a competent manner, instructions from managers and supervisors, adhering to the care plans of individual service users.
  • Work agreed shifts that are required for the provision of the service.
  • To follow written care plans, risk assessments, policies & procedures.
  • To assist the TL, DM and SMT in monitoring, promoting and maintaining Bowden Derra Park Limited’s quality assurance standards.
  • Treat all staff and service users with dignity and respect and follow Bowden Derra Park Limited’s Equality Policy and Procedure.
  • To work within Bowden Derra Park Limited’s Health and Safety policies and procedures, to include report of any findings of health and safety concerns to the TL, DM or SMT.
  • To ensure full compliance with infection control procedures following company policy at all times.

Personal Development

  • To participate in regular supervision and to receive an annual appraisal.
  • To attend and participate in regular, appropriate, in service/external training. Appropriate training will include – Induction, Moving and Handling, Health and Safety, Food Safety, Fire Safety, Epilepsy, Driver Passenger Assistant Training, Safeguarding Adults, Infection Control, Diet and Nutrition, Positive Behaviour Management, Basic Emergency Aid and Risk Assessment.
  • To commence relevant personal and professional development, to completion of the respective basic nationally recognised qualification, if not already gained.

Your on-programme learning will be supported by both the employer and a designated training advisor from Truro and Penwith College.

  • Day 12 – Best practice health and safety and formative assessments
  • Day 13 – Understanding of dementia and mental health
  • Day 14 – Exam preparation and mock professional discussion

On successful completion of the apprenticeship there is a possibility of a job role.
Working Days: Working 7 shifts of 11 hours per fortnight 7.15am – 7.15pm with one hour for breaks. Week 1: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday. 2 week rolling rota so you know months in advance your working pattern – rare in this sector. Relaxed atmosphere -no uniform. Fully supported in your role - on site management and 24/7 on call. Hot meal provided from our standard menu, but fully discounted meals also available from our new restaurant.
