A fantastic opportunity has become available at Marjon University in Plymouth. They are looking to appoint an Apprentice Leisure Assistants to join our team to assist, monitor and supervise customers in the Marjon Sports Centre.

Main Responsibilities:
•To be responsible, under the guidance of the Duty Officer, for the operation of the Sport Centre’s facilities and associated areas.
•To lifeguard the swimming pool following the Normal Operations Procedure and Emergency Action Plan for Marjon Sport Centre and to ensure high standards of cleanliness and safety for all users and report any concerns or defects to the Duty Officer.
•To work in the fitness suite and maintain a safe and hygienic environment for all staff, students and external users.
To take inductions for new fitness suite users and deliver Personal Programmes as required.
To promote health and fitness to both current and new members and follow emergency procedures as set out in the Sport Centre Policy and Procedures.
Report any safety issues to the Duty Officer.
•To be responsible for spot cleaning of all sports facilities and associated areas as directed by the Job Description Sports Centre Duty Officers. This could include the swimming pool, climbing wall, halls, changing areas, gymnasium, fitness suite and reception area.
To be familiar with the days bookings at the start of your shift
•To work in the sport stores, respond to emails and prepare and set up for the academic lectures in all given locations. Ensure that all equipment remains in a good and safe working order at all times and report any damage or safety issue to the Duty Officer.
•To prepare and set up the equipment for all booked facilities and control access by locking and unlocking facilities/rooms as required.
•To take regular patrols during shifts, ensuring that all users are abiding by the rules, regulations and conditions of use and hire.
•To actively promote the Marjon Sport Centre’s Customer Care Policy.
•To undertake specific projects set out by the Duty Officer or Operations Manager in order to make improvements for the benefit of staff, students and external users.
•To cover in areas, with the required training, to help improve the service for customers.
•To attend and participate in mandatory on-going training sessions. When these sessions are held outside the normal shift pattern, reasonable notice will be given.
You must attend monthly NPLQ staff training sessions which are delivered on site.
•To carry out occasional reception duties when required and when suitably trained to do so
As an Apprentice you will be included on an Active Leisure Qualification, this will involve a Vocational Learning Advisor who will visit you on a regular basis to deliver the training and coach the Apprentice and will be observing whilst you work.
