Great opportunity to work in Somerset as an Apprentice Equine Groom. You will be required to complete general yard duties, grooming and exercising and also assisting in the shop/coffee bar, so a nice varied role. You would help to set up the dressage arena and assist in running the shows. The employer is really looking for someone who is truly passionate about horse care, little bit of experience behind them and someone who will take on-board the training and opportunities she is willing to offer.

Description

We are set in the Somerset countryside with amazing views and offer an all-weather equestrian venue which provides a training venue and show ground for all equestrian disciplines and levels of horsemanship We have full BS show jumps, Working Hunter jumps/courses, Dressage arenas, Cross Country facility, Stables, Toilets, On-site catering, Secretary’s office, 3 x Portable judges boxes with electronic timing and PA systems, 6 rings.

General duties to include:

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning
  • Tacking up
  • Feeding
  • Filling hay nets
  • Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug changing
  • Schooling
  • Riding
  • First aid
  • Exercising horses from the ground (lunging, horse walker, long reining, pessoa training etc.)
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist

Some horse care experience would be beneficial
Ability to complete Level 1 or higher Functional Skills in Maths and English
Full training supported by Haddon Training
Must love horses, be keen to learn, friendly and outgoing. Should be able to work on own at times and use your initiative. Honest, reliability and trustworthiness are a must
Possibility of Senior Groom Apprenticeship on completion of Level 2
