Description
The candidate would initially be coming into a credit control/ purchase ledger position, working as a key member in the Finance team (6 people).
The role will involve:
Credit Control
- Setting up of new customer accounts in the company ERP, after having completed credit control checks*
- Credit control on customers for any outstanding payments i.e. invoices which have not been paid within their payment terms including dealing with any customer account queries, which could potentially be blocking payment i.e. sending through copy invoices, proof of delivery etc..
- Sending out statements on a monthly basis in line with the month-end process
- Managing the ”accounts” e-mail address including printing off remittance advices and answering customer queries
- Managing one of the company EDI systems (from an accounts perspective) to ensure that transactions happen on a timely basis and customer payments are made on a timely basis
Purchase Ledger
- Completing supplier statement reconciliations at month-end, supporting the purchase ledger clerk
- Processing supplier invoices through the company ”POP” system supporting the purchase ledger clerk
- Processing delivery invoices and then recharging to customers - ensuring that the recharge account is 0 at month-end
- Covering for the purchase ledger clerk as and when necessary
- Involvement in any adhoc projects/ financial tasks within the finance function
The role will be fully supported by more senior team members and after a preliminary period it is envisaged that the candidate will take on further responsibilities in line with their training plan and experience requirements.
Whilst we are advertising the role as a level 3 assistant accountant we would like the candidate to be working towards achieving and completing level 7 CIMA and we are fully committed to ensuring they get rounded and comprehensive experience to support that.

As an Accountancy Apprentice with BPP, you will complete the Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship at Level 3. Within the apprenticeship you will undertake the AAT Level 3 qualification.
The apprenticeship will be completed at a BPP centre or via the Online Classroom platform, in addition to at the workplace.

We are currently a Finance team of 6 based in Manchester, encompassing sales ledger, accounts payable, payroll, general accounting, reporting and commercial reporting - so there are opportunities to gain experience in all areas and then to specialise in a specific area (if so desired).
There are also finance departments in France and Spain so there could be a possibility also to complete a period of work experience abroad if also desired.
