BPP have written an article that can help give you the right impression to a potential employer. What qualities do you they look for?

Below is some of the things BPP believe employers look for in an apprentice.

First impressions count

BPP believe being well presented and appropriately dressed is one of the main things to do to make a huge impact. However, it’s not just about dressing smartly but also being engaged, having the right body language, asking questions and genuinely showing real interest in the position. Employers will look for professionalism from an apprentice right from the start.

Knowledge is King

BPP think there is no excuse not to come armed with information about the apprentice positions and employers you have applied to. The internet is a hub of knowledge at the end of your fingertips – so use it! Employers expect you to look into their website and see what homework you have done, and be eager to learn different things about the organisation.

Understand what you are getting yourself in for

BPP say employers will expect 110%. What an apprenticeship is not going to be is an easy option. You’ll be expected to work hard and study hard. Those that understand these things, put the time in, and know what their goals are, will get the most from an apprentice and go far in their careers.

Go the extra mile

BPP think during your apprenticeship, you should grab every opportunity that comes your way. Take on more work where you can, don’t see it as a burden but as a way to learn more and acquire new skills. Put yourself forward for new activities, you should be an advocate of the organisation.

Don’t give up when the going gets tough

Your employer understands that you can’t be good at everything. BPP knows that you’re still human despite how important it is to pass exams as well as do well in tasks. Always try, don’t just be negative and give up. If you’re struggling ask for help, and spend more time on those areas if you need to bring up your expertise.

An employer wants to see you grow within their company. They’ll support you every step of the way.
